Amrut 8 Years 2015 #4677 Peated Port Pipe New Vibrations emerges as an exceptional example of Indian whisky craftsmanship from Bangalore, India. This single malt is a product of meticulous production, including barley that is sourced, peated, and malted in Scotland. It is then aged in ex-port casks, which contribute to its distinctive character.
Visually, it presents a deep coppery orange hue, indicative of its maturation process. The nose is inviting, featuring complex aromas of bacon and leather interwoven with smoky ashes and vibrant fruity notes of apricot and mango. Aromatic layers of toasted bread, gingerbread, and dark chocolate reveal themselves upon aeration.
On the palate, a harmonious balance is achieved through herbaceous elements of fresh hay and malted barley, coupled with the whisky's signature smokiness. The mid-palate surprises with nuanced peaty layers and a mineral salt character that lead to a slightly smoky finish reminiscent of incense. The lengthy aftertaste showcases assertive curry notes alongside the seductive accents of port wine, revealing a fusion of red and black fruits—strawberry, raspberry, and cherry—enhanced by ethereal hints of ylang-ylang.
